What You Will Find in Motor Parts

This category holds the hard engine parts of an outboard, the castings and assemblies that make up the powerhead and its oil supply, rather than the service items that wear out every season. Each part is listed with the motors it fits.

  • Crank cylinder assembly (63V-W0090-03-1S). Crankshaft, conrods, pistons, bearings, crankcases, exhaust covers and cylinder head in one assembly. Fits the Yamaha 9.9hp and 15hp FMH two-stroke.
  • Crankcase (63V-15100-02-1S). Fits the Yamaha 9.9hp and 15hp FMH two-stroke.
  • Cylinder head (6E7-11111-01-1S). Fits the Yamaha 9.9hp and 15hp FMH two-stroke.
  • Inner exhaust cover plate (63V-41111-00-1S). Fits the Yamaha 9.9hp and 15hp FMH two-stroke.
  • Reed valve assembly (63V-13610-10). Fits the Yamaha 9.9hp FMH two-stroke.
  • Reed valve assembly (63W-13610-00). Fits the Yamaha 15hp FMH two-stroke.
  • Oil tank assembly (1200-8M0063190). Fits the Mercury 135 to 150hp OptiMax two-stroke.
  • Oil tank (1200-8M0064075). Fits the Mercury 200 to 300hp OptiMax two-stroke.

The 9.9 and 15hp FMH two-strokes share much of their powerhead, which is why one crankcase and one cylinder head cover both. The reed valves are the exception: each horsepower has its own.

Looking for Something Else?

Outboard motor spare parts cover a lot of ground. If it is not a powerhead casting, it lives in its own category:

To see everything we carry for one brand, browse the full ranges of Yamaha outboard parts, Mercury outboard parts, Suzuki, Honda, Tohatsu and Johnson and Evinrude parts, or go straight to the Yamaha 15hp two-stroke range.

Find Your Model Before You Order

Outboard engine parts are model-specific and powerhead parts are not cheap, so confirm exactly which motor you have first. Here is where to look on the two brands in this category.

Yamaha. The identification label is on the port side of the mounting bracket. It shows the model name and the serial number. Our Yamaha outboard serial number lookup explains how to read it.

Mercury and Mariner. On motors from 8hp up, Mercury puts the serial number tag on the starboard side, about halfway down the transom bracket assembly just below the powerhead. On 6hp and under, it sits on top of the swivel bracket. Our Mercury outboard serial number guide covers decoding it. The serial number matters on these oil tanks in particular, because Mercury lists the 135 to 150hp tank against a specific serial number range.

Matching a Part Number

The most reliable way to order a powerhead part is to match the part number, not the description. Look for it in these places:

  • Stamped or printed on the old part itself
  • In the parts diagram for your exact model
  • In your workshop manual or a previous invoice

On a Yamaha part number, the first three characters are a model code, usually from the motor the part was first designed for. That is why the cylinder head on this page starts with 6E7 but fits the 9.9 and 15hp FMH models, which mostly use 63V and 63W parts. Do not rule a part out because its prefix does not match your motor’s code. Rule it in or out on the fitment list.

Superseded Part Numbers

Manufacturers revise parts over the life of a motor, and a revised part gets a new number. The old number then points to the new one. Two examples on this page:

  • The Yamaha crankcase 63V-15100-02-1S has been superseded by 63V-15100-03
  • The Yamaha 15hp reed valve 63W-13610-00 has been superseded by 63W-13610-01

Mercury works the same way. The 135 to 150hp oil tank listed here as 8M0063190 also appears under the older numbers 833069T9 and 833069T6, and the 200 to 300hp tank 8M0064075 also appears as 884525T1. If the number on your old part does not match anything here, search the alternate numbers too, or send it to us and we will trace the current number.

When a Powerhead Part Is the Right Fix

These are the parts you need after something has gone wrong inside the motor. Which one depends on how far the damage goes.

  • Reed valves. On a two-stroke, the reeds let the fuel and air mix into the crankcase and stop it blowing back out. A chipped or broken reed shows up as poor idling, hard starting, a loss of power and fuel spitting back out of the carburettor throat. A reed valve assembly is a small job compared with anything else on this page, so rule it in or out early.
  • Cylinder head. A head that has corroded through its water passages or been damaged by overheating can be replaced on its own. Fit a new head gasket at the same time.
  • Crankcase or the full crank cylinder assembly. Scored cylinders, a seized motor or a failed bottom end take you into the crankcase. If the crankshaft, conrods, bearings and pistons are all suspect, the crank cylinder assembly replaces the lot in one hit. Weigh it against the cost of sourcing each of those parts separately, plus the labour of building them up.
  • Oil tanks. On an OptiMax, the oil tank feeds the oil injection system. A cracked or leaking tank is a reason to replace it before it starves the motor of oil. The 135 to 150hp tank comes with its grommets, bushing plates, T-fitting, cable ties and decal.

Before committing to any of it, a compression test tells you whether the cylinders are healthy, and the 2-stroke won’t start guide covers the cheaper causes to rule out first.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as an outboard motor part?

In this category, it means the powerhead and its oil supply: the crankcase, cylinder head, reed valves, crank cylinder assembly and oil tank. Service parts such as impellers, filters and carburettor kits have their own categories, linked above.

Are these parts listed under OEM part numbers?

Yes. Each product page states the original part number and the motors it fits, so you can match it against your old part before you buy.

How do I know which part fits my motor?

Start with the model and serial number on your motor’s identification label, then match the part number. The Yamaha 9.9 and 15hp FMH two-strokes share the crankcase and cylinder head on this page, but the reed valves are different for each horsepower.

What does FMH mean on a Yamaha outboard?

It is part of the model name on Yamaha’s small two-stroke tiller motors, such as the 9.9FMH and 15FMH. The S and L variants (FMHS and FMHL) indicate shaft length, so check the full model name on your label.

My part number is not listed. Can you still help?

Yes. Part numbers are often superseded, so the part you need may now carry a newer number. Send us the old part number and your motor’s model and serial number and our team will trace it.

What is included in the Yamaha crank cylinder assembly?

The crankshaft, conrods, pistons, bearings, crankcases, exhaust covers and cylinder head, as one assembly for the 9.9 and 15hp FMH two-strokes.

How fast will my order ship?

In-stock orders placed before 2pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day. Standard shipping is free on orders over $50, and you can also collect from our Kunda Park warehouse on the Sunshine Coast.
